The Art Of Storytelling On The Screen For Actors.

Over the course of eight two-hour classes and one individual consultation, this programme will show you how to:

• Create short-form content to showcase your talents

• Develop characters with clear definition

• Use your powers of observation to create arresting screen moments

• Think visually and invite your audience into your world

• Communicate emotion for maximum impact

• “Be obvious with your subtleties”, as advised by Billy Wilder.

We will cover:

• The Sequence Approach: Designing Your Story To Be Believable Yet Never Predictable

• The Jungian Moment: The Keystone of Your Story

• Dramatic Tension: How It Works And Why It Is A Necessary Ingredient In Screen Stories.

• The Enneagram: A Deep Dive into Characters’ Motivations

• The Three Hats: Understanding the Audience’s Relationship to The Story

• Your Unique Voice: Cinematic Storytelling and Your Originality

You will emerge with:

• A strong polished screenplay for a short-short (under 4 minutes), a character study (under 1 minute) and a short film (under 13 minutes).

• A sound grasp of how storytelling on the screen works.

• An better understanding of how to be an asset on a set.

This programme is suitable for all levels of experience, including first-time actor-screenwriters.

Tutors: Mary Kate and Rachel O Flanagan are writers and story midwives, who work internationally, helping to shape stories by emerging and established screenwriters.

There will be a maximum of 10 participants in this group. Cost is €499 per participant. Early bird discount to €399 for bookings received by December 31 st 2022 OR 10% discount for WGI members/WFT members.

This course also includes one individual consultation session with the tutor (1 x 60 minute meeting by arrangement).

All classes are recorded so that you can watch or rewatch them in your own time.
